Two months ago I was scrolling down on Instagram when the brand “The Ordinary” caught my attention. I went to their website to check which products they offered. The first thing I noticed was the packaging – simple and elegant. The next thing I noticed was that all of their products had really amazing ingredients which almost every high-end brand offers. Obviously these high-end products are very pricey and not everyone can afford it. But what makes the “The Ordinary” so special? The Ordinary is a brand of DECIEM and they sell their products for very, very affordable prices.
So are these products worth the hype? In order to find that out I ordered four products right away from Asos and paid around € 33,- (!). It was really hard for me to decide what to order as they have a wide variety of products for almost every skin problem. You might know I always try products which make my skin glowy or have an brightening effect. So I ordered two products, which promises to deliver brightening results: “Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%” and “Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%”. To make sure that my skin is always moisturized I ordered “Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5” and to fight against my hyperpigmentation around my mouth area I ordered “Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA”. What I really like about the brand is that their products are free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oils, animal oils and perfumes. I only use skincare products which are free of perfumes otherwise my skin always tends to break out.
You have to be careful when using the products. The water formulations should be applied before oil formulations and The Ordinary recommends using a maximum of three serum formulations in a single regimen.
Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%
I was very excited when I ordered this product. It’s a Vitamin C serum that brightens and protects skin against ageing. It has a water-free and silicone-free formula and should ideally be applied at night time. I applied the serum every night before going to bed. In the beginning of using this product I felt a little tingling on my skin but after some days my skin got used to it so the tingling effect disappeared. After two months of using this product I can say that it didn’t fulfill my expectations and I hardly saw any results. I know I won´t be buying this product again.
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%
This was the second product I ordered. It is a brightening hydrator with stabilized Vitamin C Derivative. This cream should be applied to face in the AM and PM, after application of water-based serums. I used this cream for two months as well and I can say, that I like how hydrated my skin feels after every application. To be honest I didn´t saw any brightening results and I won´t be buying this cream again. It does hydrate my skin but that´s all.
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
If you are looking for a great product which hydrates the skin, then this is what you are looking for. Hyaluronic Acid is our best friend when it comes to hydration. I applied the serum in the AM and PM. The serum leaves a sticky feeling on the skin but after applying the moisturizer, the sticky feeling disappears and the skin feels very hydrated. And it never feels too heavy underneath my daily moisturizer. I love how my Makeup looks with this serum.
Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
I was super excited about this product. Alpha Arbutin reduces the looks of spots and hyper-pigmentation. I have been struggling with pigmentation around my mouth area for years and thought I finally found a product which can help to lighten it up. I applied the serum in the AM and PM and used sun protection as well. After two months of using this product I can say that unfortunately I didn’t saw any results. I wanted to love this product but this just did not work for me. I am extremely disappointed and after this experience, I think I will not buy anything from this brand again.
Unfortunaley I personally wouldn’t recommend their products. This Review is based on my skin so it can be that you see amazing results if you use some of The Ordinary products. But sadly they didn’t work for me.
Lots of Love,
